After securing a hard-fought point against second-placed South Melbourne FC, South Island United entered their Round 2 (Matchday 19) OFC Pro League fixture against Solomon Kings FC full of confidence.

The opening stages saw SIU on the back foot, with the Kings controlling possession, though clear chances were scarce. The deadlock nearly fell in the 20th minute when the Kings were awarded a penalty, but Steven Van Dijk produced a moment of brilliance, diving full stretch to his right to deny Lofthouse and keep the scores level.

Despite the King's dominance, Van Dijk was rarely troubled, while SIU showed flashes of threat on the counter, largely through Fuetz. The forward created several openings in the first half, but none troubled Kings goalkeeper Mango. SIU’s clearest chance came five minutes before the break when Fuetz squared to Rodwell just inside the area, only for the midfielder to blaze over. Late first half drama saw the Kings awarded a second penalty after Van Rijssel was deemed to have fouled Kings player Fordney Junior, but following a VAR review, the referee overturned the decision, ruling that no contact had been made.

The second half began much like the first. The Kings pressed, but Van Dijk once again came to SIU’s rescue, this time in the 59th minute, denying Kaua in a one-on-one to force a corner. SIU’s first real chance of the half arrived in the 70th minute. Following a corner scramble, substitute Joshua Rogerson had a close-range effort, only for it to rattle off the right-hand post.

The post came to the Kings’ rescue once again in the 86th minute. David Yoo picked up space outside the box and fired a low drive that glanced off the same upright Rogerson had struck minutes earlier. Moments later, SIU thought they had finally broken the deadlock. Oskar Van Hattum met a pinpoint cross from Ollie Fay, losing his marker and powering a header into the top-left corner. However, VAR intervened once more, ruling that Van Hattum had made contact with Kings defender Iro during the buildup, and the goal was disallowed.

That would prove to be South Island United’s final real opportunity, and the match ended 0–0. It was a frustrating contest for both sides, with periods of dominance and flashes of promise, but neither could find the breakthrough. Van Dijk’s heroics, Fuetz’s link-up play, as well as  Rogerson and Yoo’s  post-strike were the standout moments for SIU, who, despite their best efforts, were unable to find the decisive goal.
